We have received the following message from Ambassador Hwang:
The ROK Ambassador’s Congratulation Message
on the Occasion of the 60th Anniversary of the British Korean Society
As the ROK Ambassador to the United Kingdom and the joint President of the British Korean Society, it is my great pleasure and honor to mark the 60th anniversary of the BKS here in London.
Back in 1956 when the BKS, then called the Anglo-Korean Society, was first founded the Republic of Korea was a very different country. Over the course of the past 60 years, Korea has transformed itself into a full democracy and the 11th largest global economic power.
As a great friend of Korea within the UK, the BKS has stood by us through the years and has always been at the centre of efforts to support as well as facilitate positive and amicable ties between the peoples of our two countries. In this role, the BKS has excelled and in turn earned our abiding gratitude.
Building on the excellent ROK-UK relationship, we still have many more opportunities to expand further the foundations of our relationship and to work together for mutual benefit. To this end, I believe that the BKS has a key role to play, promoting and fostering friendship between the peoples of Korea and the UK.
Finally, I would like to reaffirm both my and the ROK Embassy’s commitment to continuing our support for the BKS’s growing membership and far-reaching and constructive activities that will further pave the way for the strengthening of our bilateral ties for the next 60 years and beyond.
