70th Anniversary of the Outbreak of the Korean War

I shall write in more detail in our summer newsletter about the modest but moving ceremonies that took place on 25 June in the UK to mark the 70th anniversary of the start of the Korean War.  I was involved in my role as President of the British Korean War Veterans’ Association, and travelled to the National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas to be present when wreaths were laid there.  We know from long experience that it is rare to get good media coverage for events such as this, but I was pleased that The Times mentioned the anniversary on the day, and the Daily Mirror ran a very good piece on Saturday 27 June, which you can find here.  I would like to give full credit to the Royal British Legion and the Ministry of Defence for their part in making sure this important day did not go unremarked.  But more on all this in the newsletter.
