UK-Korea Business Seminar – a ‘first’ for the British Korean Society

A UK-Korea Business Seminar and networking reception was held on 23 September in the Mansion House in London, a ground-breaking event for the Society in this its 60th Anniversary year.

The Seminar Programme

Addressed by The Rt Hon the Lord Mayor of London, Alderman The Lord Mountevans, who visited Korea in July, and by HE Mr Joonkook Hwang, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, Joint President of the BKS, the event was attended by some 120 British and Korean participants, mainly from the business sector. As can be seen from the programme, a range of knowledgeable speakers focussed on three main subjects: Maritime issues, Financial services and Fintech – for which two speakers came over from Seoul – and Bilateral Investment and Trade policy. The last session was of particular interest to those concerned about issues relating to Brexit; input from British and Korean Government specialists during this session was especially pertinent.

There were plenty of questions for the speakers, and discussion continued throughout a lively networking reception. Reaction was positive, and some called for the Society to make this a regular event. We shall see. It certainly gained us some new members and made the Society better known to a wider audience, but it was lot of work, by volunteers…

Special thanks are due to to KOTRA and Thinking Space Design and Build who generously funded the reception, to those members of the BKS Committee who gave of their time and expertise, and to the Programme team at Mansion House who provided the venue and close cooperation.
