Tour of London Gateway Port, 3 April 2019

Corporate BKS member David Browne of Maersk Line had kindly arranged a tour of their container ship, the Evelyn Maersk, docking at London Gateway on 3rd April 2019. Unfortunately all did not go according to plan with the vessel arriving later than expected, which meant that we were unable to go on board.

However, the small group that decided to go ahead with the visit were well rewarded. Robert Moodie from DP World (the port operator) gave a fascinating introduction to the port operations and how they link with the shipping at sea and the logistics chain ashore.

This was followed by a very interesting tour of the container handling facilities which are huge and impressive.

Although it was a pity to miss the ship visit, the operational factors that make such changes inevitable are understandable.  On the plus side, Robert and David were very generous with their time and we were able to discuss the complexities of the port operation and witness what was going on in more detail.

The BKS would like to extend their gratitude to David Browne and Maersk Line for arranging this very special visit.
