Seollal Celebration at Kalbi Korean Restaurant

Seollal is a very special time of year in Korea. Seollal celebrates the beginning of the Lunar New Year – 2020 will be the Year of the Rat (or mouse depending on where you live). It’s a time for families to come together, celebrate and give thanks. In Korea that means a three day holiday and plenty of travel to see family and friends. It also means that cities such as Seoul are relatively quiet as the folks decamp to their ancestral homes to eat specially prepared food and play traditional games.

The British Korean Society celebrated the spirit of Seollal with a celebration dinner at Kalbi Restaurant in North London. Over 30 members and guests of the Society were present and were treated to some of the best Korean food in London. This included japchae, pajeon, kimchi, bibimbap (my own favourite), Korean barbecue meats and tteokguk – rice cake soup specially made for Seollal. It was a wonderful evening which captured the magic of Seollal.

Our thanks go to Yoon of Kalbi and to Sylvia for their fantastic organisation and brilliant food.
