The Churchill War Rooms

BKS members were treated to another insightful and enjoyable guided walking tour of the Westminster area led by Blue Badge guide and BKS member Sue King on Thursday 11th July 2024.

Despite the wet and cold July London weather, we were fortunate to enjoy sunshine while meandering through the Westminster area, focusing on D-Day secrets which were perfectly fitting for the 80th Anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy.

Sue led us through many historic sites, some well-known and others less so, including where all the secret plans were discussed and hatched, such as Norfolk House, the former MI5/6 building, the headquarters of the Free French Forces in Carlton Gardens, which was set up by General De Gaulle and where he stayed for a number of years, and the Churchill War Rooms. As we concluded our walking tour in front of the Churchill War Rooms, we were treated to the sound of the Royal Marine Band playing on Horse Guards Parade.

Afterwards, we enjoyed delicious Korean food and drinks at Ma Eum Korean restaurant, and most of all, wonderful conversations with one another. A good time was had by all.

Huge thanks to Sue for the great walking tour!
