Annual General Meeting, 23 March 2020

The AGM of the British Korean Society has now been CANCELLED.
Chairman’s Message:
I am sure that all members will understand that in the current circumstances, the Committee has decided that the Society’s Annual General Meeting cannot go ahead as planned on 23 March. The Constitution very wisely provides:
“There shall be an Annual General Meeting for all members of the Society, held where possible during the first three calendar months of each year.”
I am sure that we are entirely justified in using the flexibility afforded by this wording to postpone the AGM this year. My suggestion is that we will proceed as follows:
- We will still aim to circulate the standard reports that we would normally discuss at the AGM. We will aim to do that by next Monday, while bearing in mind that some of the Committee may find their own work life getting more hectic and thus not have time to devote to Committee work. But we will do what we can.
- We will still hope to hold an AGM when circumstances permit, but we shall temper this by a dose of realism. If the earliest we can do it is well into the autumn, and other events might stretch our resources too thinly, we may have to re-consider.
- Sadly, it is hard to see that we will be able to hold events as we would wish for the foreseeable future. But we will keep this closely under review – and I shall say more about our plans in the Chairman’s annual report that we will circulate with the other AGM reports.
- The Committee will carry on its current shape, except that Cathy Kim’s resignation will, alas, take effect and one new member – Alison Evans – will be co-opted on to the Committee, instead of being elected on at the AGM.
