S u b j e c t : Ferry Accident

Dear Ambassador

I write to express my sorrow on reading of the tragic loss of so many lives, including many young students, in the sinking of the ferry MV Sewol.

I know that Korea’s emergency services will have reacted very rapidly, and that they are still searching for survivors, but this is a very sad time for many of your country’s people.

Both personally and on behalf of the British-Korean Society, I express my heartfelt condolences to all those affected.

Yours sincerely

Warwick Morris

Dear Amb. Morris,
I am writing to offer my thanks, on behalf of the Korean Government, for your kind words of condolence following the recent Sewol ferry tragedy.
We have been heartened by the support offered to us by our friends in the United Kingdom during this period of national grief in which we mourn the loss of so many young lives of vibrancy and potential.
In time, as grief turns to reflection, I am certain the words and deeds of our friends here and abroad will help assuage this immediate sense of tragedy as we recognise that we have not been alone during these sad events.

With sincere gratitude,

Sungnam Lim

A representative from the Marine Society and Sea Cadets, who have an annual exchange with the ROK, have also expressed their sympathy to our members.

On behalf of everyone at MSSC I just wanted to say how very saddened we were to hear the shocking news of the recent ferry tragedy in South Korea. Of course we very much hope that none of your members will have a direct connection to the incident, but with an accident of this size and so many young people lost, even if not directly affected it must be a sad time for the nation as a whole. Whatever country you are from I don’t think you can fail to be moved by this event. If you feel appropriate, please pass on our thoughts and sympathy to your members at this difficult time.
Kind regards
Judith
