BKS members are warmly invited to a guided tour of the FCDO, led by Patrick Salmon, Chief Historian at the FCDO.

The FCDO building on King Charles Street, designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott and opened in 1868, is an outstanding example of Victorian public architecture. Its interior reflects many facets of Britain’s history and its place in the world, from the mid-Victorian age of Empire to the modern era. The building includes a number of spectacular and beautifully restored “State Rooms”, where significant events in diplomatic history have taken place.

This exclusive tour for BKS members offers a rare opportunity to explore this remarkable historic building and to hear some of the fascinating stories from more than 150 years of diplomatic history.

Please reserve your place using our online booking form.

Spaces are extremely limited and attendance is restricted to BKS members only.

Patrick Salmon joined the FCDO in 2003 from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, where he had been Professor of International History. He has been Chief Historian since 2005. He has published extensively on the history of Germany, the Baltic and the Nordic countries.
