The Henry Jackson Society and the British Korean Society are delighted to invite Members of the BKS to a roundtable event with

The event will be of particular relevance to anybody interested in long-term economic developments and opportunities in East Asia, particularly those interested in the future of the Korean Peninsula.

Peace and re-unification on the Korean Peninsula depend on a complex interplay of local and international forces. But one crucial issue has to be addressed if any peace settlement is to lead forward to stability, let alone re-unification; convergence of the North Korean economy with that of the South. However long this process might take, for  Korean history to resume a positive course it cannot start too soon. Area experts will speak on the basic conditions that are already in place – existing political interest and initiatives, natural and human resources, agricultural, industrial and  transport infrastructure, and developments in market-related commerce at home and overseas. Other themes may include how revival and reconstruction can build on existing potential without posing unsustainable challenges to the current  political status quo.

The Henry Jackson Society is a libertarian British foreign policy think tank and is named after the American politician Henry M. Jackson, the late Democratic Senator and  civil rights advocate.
