In-Sung HanIn-Sung is a PhD candidate (History of Art) in the Department of Art and Archaeology, School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London. She earned her BA in History of Art (first class honours) at SOAS in 2011.

In-Sung’s PhD research investigates Islamic cultural and artistic presence in medieval Korea, a rarely touched-upon topic. In-Sung will present evidences of this inter-cultural phenomenon in various parts of medieval Korean art and culture, particularly decorative arts. She has already published an article on this topic, “Objects as History: Islamic Material Culture in Medieval Korea”, in the Orientations, 2013.

The Anglo-Korean Society Bursary will cover some of the expenses of her fieldworks, mainly trips to museums of East Asia this summer. In-Sung will use this opportunity to confirm her theses with material evidences.
