Yongeun KOO
Youngeun Koo (MSc Candidate, University of Oxford)

Youngeun has an academic background in History and Cultural Studies. In the last three years, she has been working as a social researcher in civil society organisations to support migrants, refugees and immigration detainees in the UK. She is particularly interested in the issue of boundaries and human mobility in a global perspective. In 2014/15, Youngeun will be doing the MSc in Migration Studies at the University of Oxford.

For her dissertation, she will explore the interactions between political movements amongst Korean adoptees and their identity creation. She is particularly interested in exploring how their individual stories are interwoven with or divorced from their public engagement, and how they negotiate with both the adoptive and sending countries. Youngeun intends to use the Bursary to purchase literature on transnational adoption which is hard to find in the UK, and also covers some of the expenses of her interviews with adoptees.
