30 January 2015 – a memorable day for BKS Events Secretary Sylvia Park.

Sylvia being congratulated by HRH Prince Charles in the Grand Ballroom

On 30th January Sylvia was presented with her MBE by HRH Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace. In her own words:

“I had a wonderful, enjoyable and very exciting day at Buckingham Palace on 30 January 2015.

I was so glad that I decided to wear our national costume, everyone made comments and came to talk to me.

And I was so very thrilled, happy and proud on that day to be representing my country of birth, South Korea, here in the UK.”

From our Chairman:

Sylvia Park  first came to London when working for British Airways and later worked for the Korean Tourist Board in London.

She became actively involved in the Anglo-Korean Society in the 1970s, becoming the Society’s Events Secretary some 20 years ago. This unstinting and unpaid work over many years has contributed greatly to strengthening UK-Korea people-to-people links in this country, doing much to increase mutual understanding. Her commitment to the Society has never wavered, despite the inevitable pressures involved in organising a range of events each year, especially our prestigious annual dinner. She has also helped to keep successive Chairmen up to the mark! The award of an MBE in the Diplomatic and Overseas Section of this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours is a fitting tribute to Sylvia’s continuing work, and we congratulate her warmly.
