A wonderful Chuseok party for BKS members was held at the Ambassador’s residence on 15 September.

Ambassador Hwang welcomes the guests

Some 65 members from all spheres joined the annual event, together with members of the Korean Embassy. Welcoming the guests, Ambassador Hwang drew attention to the importance of Chuseok for getting together with those dear to us. Having served in London some 28 years ago, the Ambassador noted the tremendous increase in bilateral relations and the strong links in business, education, politics, culture and science. He praised BKS’s contribution to the strengthening of these links and congratulated the Society on its 60th anniversary; it was a time both to reflect on what has gone before and to look to the challenges ahead.

In response, BKS Chairman Warwick Morris thanked the Ambassador and his wife for hosting members, including for the delicious traditional buffet. He welcomed the presence of other Embassy friends and of two senior representatives from Samsung Electronics UK, the Society’s current principal sponsor. To mark its anniversary, BKS would be holding a business seminar at Mansion House a few days later and a special celebration dinner in the House of Commons on 17 November. The previous day he had been interviewed by a Seoul radio station on how BKS members celebrated Chuseok in the UK. As well as mentioning this event at the Residence, he had recalled personal memories of Chuseok in Korea, and greatly admired the way this family tradition remained so strong.
