Hoon Song

Hoon Song (150x200)I was born in Seoul, South Korea and spent my school years in Busan. I entered Yonsei University in Seoul and studied Theology, which became my academic ground for a theological approach toward the unification of Korea. After my undergraduate school, I decided to study Church History at Yonsei Graduate School to learn how Christianity had influenced the Korean society since the arrival of the Western missionaries. I attained a Master of Divinity Degree and a Master of Sacred Theology at Boston University School of Theology. I wrote a thesis about a Christian revival movement in the United States and a history of American missions in Korea during the Japanese occupation.

At the University of Edinburgh, I am presently writing a Ph. D thesis about the history of the unification movement of South Korean Protestant Churches and a constructive approach toward the unification of Korea borrowing the theological ideas of healing memories and reconciliation.

For a purpose to draw people’s attention to the peace and unification issues of Korea, I will give a presentation at the 2017 Edinburgh-Yale Conference of World Christianity, with the bursary support of the British Association for Korean Studies. This year the conference is at Yale University.
