Euy Suk is a research student in the School of East Asian Studies, University of Sheffield. He obtained BA in Asian History from Korea University, Seoul, and MSc in Theory and History of International Relations from the London School of Economics.

Euy Suk’s Ph.D. research (Anglo-Korean Relations in the Period of the Korean Empire, 1895-1905) focuses on how Britain and Korea interacted with each other when the independence of Korea was challenged by Russo-Japanese rivalry in the region. In Year 2015/6, he will focus on how Britain maintained its presence in Korea while Russo-Japanese rivalry became intense in the late 1890s.

He intends to use the Bursary for his research trips to the National Archives, British Library and the SOAS Library in London, where he can find the primary sources relevant to his research topic.
